How to beat your allergies

0
My dad gave me the wonderful gift of hayfever. Or pollen and ragweed fever. Whatever. It’s miserable. Thankfully, there are much better options for feeling better these days than there were when my dad was my age. Drugs are wonderful, but I’ve also picked up some tips and tricks that have made a tremendous difference.
  1.  Use the right type of allergy relief. Do you know that different people respond differently to antihistamines? If one isn’t working, try something else. With as many choices out there, hopefully you’ll find something that helps you.
  2. Keep the outdoors out. If ragweed and pollen are the culprits, then keep your windows and doors closed as much as possible. Invest in a furnace filter that catches these little buggers before they circulate all over your home. (Note: if you are NOT sensitive to allergens, you might NOT want to put in a high-density allergen air filter. They require your furnace to work harder to force the air through the filter, costing you more money to run your furnace.)
  3. If you need more help, invest in a room air cleaner. I’ve seen the larger HEPA air cleaners, but this one by The Sharper Imagedoes what they do not:  adds a wonderful, changeable fragrance to your air. It’s also priced very reasonably and can fit on almost any surface.
  4. Shower before you go to bed. This is a tip my doctor gave me. Wash away all the allergens you have on your skin and in your hair so you don’t take them into your bed and leave them there to rub into your skin and face all night. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
  5. Speaking of night, take your pills at night. This way when you wake up your meds are already at full strength even before you go out into the world. They are decreasing as you come home (hopefully into a cleaner, controlled environment where it won’t bother you as much).

I hope these tips have helped you. They have made a HUGE difference in my quality of life. I’d love to hear from you about any tips or tricks you’ve picked up to deal with your allergies. What works for you?
